Farewell to Kona, Cannonfire Photography’s “Studio Mascot”
Kona at the former Cannonfire Photography studio in St. Petersburg, Florida
We recently had to say goodbye to our 14-year-old Mini Schnauzer, Kona. Many of our clients from the St. Pete photography studio days remember him as our “studio mascot.” He eagerly greeted clients at the door and loved to snuggle in their lap as they viewed their photos and discussed prints and products with Jason and our Studio Manager. She sent us this photo the other day and it made me smile to remember how much he LOVED barking at anything that dared to move on the other side of those large windows that faced 9th St. N.!
Losing Kona and going through memories like the photo of this one at the St. Pete studio helped me pause and reflect on the history of Cannonfire Photography (which you can read more about in this blog post) and where we are headed now.
1. The biggest difference since this photo was taken is that we no longer live in St. Pete! It’s still “home” in many ways because that’s where our family memories began. We relocated to Winter Garden in 2016 to be closer to extended family and we are making new memories in the West Orange area.
2. After dabbling on the website off and on throughout our 15+ year marriage, I officially joined the company in 2023 and my role is Brand Strategist. And yes, my first order of business was to scrap the last website and begin building a new website that reflects Cannonfire Photography’s vibrant photos, quality service, and authenticity.
3. We expanded our services to include headshots, corporate branding, commercial and product photography, corporate events, and non-profit event fundraisers.
4. Jason loves to teach, especially on topics he is passionate about. We have brought back our photography education outings, he is available for individual lessons on composition and lighting, and we have more education plans for the near future.

I’m grateful to be looking ahead at the future of Cannonfire Photography while I’m also thankful for the memories up until now – especially including Kona! Of course, I have amazing photos to remember him by.
Jason schemed with Kara’s family to surprise her with Kona for Christmas in 2010. It was a COMPLETE shock and Kara’s entire extended family talked about it behind her back at Thanksgiving that year!
Kona “snuck in” to some of the photos at the St. Pete studio as Jason and Kara announced in 2011 they were expecting their first Cannon Kid.

P.S. No, Cannonfire Photography is NOT expanding into offering pet portraits! ;)
