What Do I Wear for My Headshot Photo?

One of the most frequently asked questions at Cannonfire Photography is, “What do I wear for my headshot photo?”

For Ladies

For ladies, we recommend a solid colored top with muted colors. Bright colors can really be a distraction from your face, which is what is most important to focus on in a professional headshot. If wearing a jacket, go with black or navy, with a white, beige or muted color top. Minimize jewelry as well, other than a thin necklace or small earrings, since that is also a distraction.

For Men

For men, keep it classic with an ironed long-sleeve button-up dress shirt in white or non-bright colors, and if adding a sport-coat, dark blue or dark gray is best.

If in an industry or position that isn't as formal, dress for your position/role, but in general avoid bright colors, patterns and logos for a less-distracting, focused look.
